Founder of Novel Aquatech in 2004 simultaneously in Sydney Australia and Pune India, Dr. Chattopadhyay has over thirty years of industrial, research, and academic experience. For the past ten years he has managed the Environmental Engineering laboratories at UNSW, one of the largest universities in Australia. Previously, for seven years he was research manager at the corporate R&D Centre of Steel Authority of India in Ranchi, India, following work with ICI in India. Subsequent work has included operations, R&D, and engineering assignments in the Indian steel industry. In 1980 he pursued post-graduate education in the USA and spent 8 years in the US with assignments in research, product development and environmental management.
Training
Dr. Chattopadhyay has expertise in process and design engineering in heavy industry. His USA experience involved engineering plastics and composite materials, and developing electronic imaging products. Over the last twenty years he has gained expertise in environmental engineering, focussing on instrumental analyses of air and water contaminants, environmental modelling, end of pipe technology development, and environmental project engineering. His work has resulted in over 40publications in international scientific journals and conferences.
Education
Dr. Chattopadhyay earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Jadavpur University, Calcutta. He also has an MS degree in Materials Science from Youngstown State University, Youngstown, Ohio.
Founder of Neuman & Esser (India) Ltd (German Process Compressor Company) in 2002 to develop their Global Package Engineering Centre, now engaged in various projects throughout Asia.
Founder of Gaso Energy Systems in 1993, with Partners, specialising in the design and fabrication of compressible fluid mechanics applications. The company has produced equipment for gas purification, gas/liquid dehydration, and gas separation. They also fabricate compressor packages and CNG packages. Previously, from 1976 to 1993 he worked for Atlas Copco concluding as Divisional Manger of theGas and Process Division.

He has over twenty-three years of working experience in the manufacturing industry in a Senior Level Corporate position. He has well-rounded engineering and business skills with a strong background in leading small to large organizations in systems organization, change management, corporate leadership and technology implementation. Rana has recently retired as Exec-VP of Engineering, R&D, QA, Process Improvement and Field Engineering Service, Velan Inc, Montreal, manufacturing industrial valves in 13 plants worldwide.
Technical Background
His technology skills range from Aerospace manufacturing, Boilers, pressure vessels, petrochemicals and power plant operations, apart from widespread exposure to common manufacturing engineering technology and operations management in an ERP environment. He has specialized knowledge in critical service applications, high level R&D in surface treatment technology including coatings/plating and heat treatment, stress and design analysis, selection of 3D modelling systems, FEA, CFD etc.
Educational and other Background
His original Bachelor’s degree is in Chemical Engineering from Washington University with an Executive Diploma in Management from McGill University.
